How to Fix: Spirit Requires iTunes 9 to Function

Spirit and iTunes 9After publishing the post of “Untethered Jailbreak Guide for iPhone 3.1.3 Using Spirit“, some users mentioned in the comment that they encountered the following error while using Spirit to jailbreak their iPhones:

Spirit Requires iTunes 9 to Function. Please install a correct version of iTunes then run Spirit again.

What’s interesting is that the users already installed iTunes 9.1 on the computer. It just seems Spirit doesn’t recognize the iTunes 9.

I’m not sure how many of you encounter the error but it deserves an in-depth look to see how it can be fixed. As I search the web, here are three possible solutions to resolve the problems:

1. Use Spirit Fixer

According to TechPetals, an iPhone developer has come up with a solution called Spirit Fixer. Follow the procedures to download and install:

(i) Download Spirit Fixer by Kirma (RapidShare or Mediafire)

(ii) Extract the downloaded file then run Spirit.Fixer.By.Kirma.v1.01.exe

(iii) After that, run Spirit.exe

2. Run Spirit in specific folder

Alternatively, another possible fix is simply copy spirit.exe inside this folder: C:\Program files\Common files\Apple\Apple Application Support\. Then run it from that folder.

3. Re-install iTunes 9

If the above solutions still doesn’t work for you, you probably need to re-install iTunes 9. You can follow these procedures to completely uninstall iTunes and install iTunes 9.1 again. After that, re-run Spirit. This should work.

For me, I didn’t come across the error. The whole spirit jailbreak process is very quick and smooth. In case you have encountered the error, you can try out the above solutions. And, remember to leave us comment to let us know which solution works for you.
