What about changing the system font? How can you customize the font via Winterboard?

You can’t do that via Winterboard. If you are bored with the default font of your iPhone, you can check out another cydia hack called FontSwap. With FontSwap, you can easily switch the font of your iPhone from one and other.

To use the app, you can first download and install it via Cydia. When launched, you’re presented with a menu that allows you to customize the font type in different areas including:

• Dialer / Calculator Font
• LockClock Font
• Notes Font
• System Font

Say, you want to change the system font. Simply select “System Fonts” and choose the font you want to use. Confirmed the font installation and your iPhone will be refreshed with the new font.

To change font in Notes, Dialer or Calculator app, simply select the corresponding option. If you need to restore to the default font, just select the “Restore Default Fonts” option.

Even with the release of iPhone OS 3.1.3, you are not allowed customize the look & feel of the iPhone background and icons. The only thing that Apple lets you change is the wallpaper of the lock screen.

That’s not enough.

I know quite a number of iPhone users are convinced to jailbreak their iPhone because of this single application: Winterboard. Winterboard is one of the most popular applications in Cydia that lets you completely change the look & feel of your iPhone including background, icons, keyboard, sound, SMS background, etc. It’s just fun and makes your iPhone stand out from the crowd.

A couple days ago, Jay Freeman, the creator of cydia, has put up an updated version of Winterboard (i.e. 0.9.3154-1) with a number of bug fixes and some exciting enhancements. It has been a long time since Winterboard get updated.

The new version comes with a new configuration screen and it can be accessible via Settings. Here are the details for the update:

• Fixes a few 3.1+ specific issues
• Introduces a PNG theme optimizer to improve the theme performance
• Comes with a Summerboard Mode, that makes older themes more compatible with Winterboard
• Adds debug mode for theme debugging (specially designed for theme designer)
• Hide Winterboard from iPhone screen

Once launched, Winterboard will show you a new interface for configuration. You can accept all the default settings. To optimize the existing theme images, you can simply click the “Optimize Themes (v1.0)”. It’ll take a while for the optimization process. Just be patience and wait until it completes.

To change theme, you can tap “Select Themes” and select the theme you want to change. Then tap “Winterboard” button to go back the main screen and click “Respring” button.

If you are using Winterboard, go ahead to upgrade to the latest version. It’s now available in cydia and it’s still free.

Wanted to know if i could use a theme like ielegate and still have my own custom background and lockscreen?

That’s a good question. I guess some of you may also have the same question. It’s common that you install a great Winterboard theme. You love all parts of the theme except the background. So, how can you customize it and use back your own wallpaper?

The solution is to use a “User Wallpaper” option in Winterboard.

Let’s say you have installed the iGlassSol theme. It looks great. However, let’s change the default wallpaper to our own wallpaper.

Procedures to Set User Wallpaper in Winterboard

1. First, go to Settings -> Wallpaper and select your photo as wallpaper.

2. Go back to home screen and launch Winterboard.

3. Tap “User Wallpaper” to enable the option. Make sure the “User Wallpaper” option is placed on top of the iGlassSol theme.

Tip: To move the “User Wallpaper” option to the very top, tap and hold the “sort” icon. Then drag it to the top of the list.

4. Next, simply click the Home button to respring the home screen. Once the new setting is activated, you should be able to use your own background and the Winterboard theme together.

If you prefer to use your own lock screen, you can further enable the “User Lock Background” option in Winterboard. This will then override the lock screen setting of the Winterboard theme.

The “Slide to Unlock” feature of iPhone changes the way we answer calls or unlock the phone. Before the debut of iPhone, we used to click on the “Answer” button to pick up a call. With iPhone, you use the slider to answer a call.

The slider is fancy and works pretty great. But I have heard from some iPhone users that they are looking for tweak or hack to switch back to the old way – Tap to unlock.

So, is there any way to change the “Slide to Unlock” back to “Tap to Unlock”?

With cydia, there is always a hack for that! If you would like to switch back to “Tap to Unlock”, simply download a hack called “Padlock Tap to Unlock” from cydia. The hack requires to have Winterboard installed. If you are a new user of Winterboard, you can check out this post about how to install and use Winterboard.

To enable the “Padlock” hack, launch Winterboard and select “Padlock Tap To Unlock”. Then click the Home button to activate it. Wait a few seconds. Once activated, you can just tap on the lock icon to Unlock your iPhone.

This hack does not only change the “Slide to unlock” slider. For other sliders such as “Slide to Power off”, they will also be switched to “Tap”.
