WiFi Sync for iPhone Rejected but Now Available in Cydia Store
As expected, the WiFi Sync application that we have covered two weeks ago is rejected by Apple to make its appearance on App Store. However, if you are using a jailbroken iPhone, the app is now available on Cydia store for US$9.99.
WiFi Sync lets you sync the iPhone with iTunes without USB connection but simply over WiFi. The app is developed by Greg Hughes and was first revealed in late April with a video demo. In the video, he showed the WiFi Sync automatically searches for computer once launched. After a simple process to pair the iPhone (or iPad / iPod touch) with your computer, iTunes start syncing with the device wirelessly.
This is a long-awaited feature and many of us are expecting Apple to bring it to iPhone officially. With no surprise, this app is rejected by Apple. According to Engadget, here is the rejection as explained by the developer from an unnamed Apple rep over the phone:
While he agreed that the app doesn’t technically break the rules, he said that it does encroach upon the boundaries of what they can and cannot allow on their store. He also cited security concerns.
Even though it can’t make its appearance in App Store, the developer decided to put up the app on Cydia store for iPhone jailbreaker to download. Presently, the WiFi sync app is currently compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 only. The Windows version will be available later.
The app costs US$9.99. For those who enjoy WiFi sync with iTunes, you can now head to Cydia store and purchase the application.
